How to Install Freedom

Freedom is the website and app blocking software that I recommend to install and use to overcome Internet Distraction.

How to create a Freedom account

If you want to install Freedom on your computer, tablet, or smartphone, the first thing you need to do is to create an account here. This will give you a free trial for seven sessions.

Type your name and email, and create a password. Click on the green “sign up” button and you have a Freedom account in less than one minute.

This trial account would be enough to try Freedom, learn how to use it, and see whether this piece of software suits your needs.

How to upgrade your Freedom account

If later you decide to purchase it, just click on the “upgrade” button at the top of the screen within your Freedom account.

Freedom will offer you three options: a monthly subscription for $6.99/month, a yearly subscription for $2.42/month, and a lifetime subscription for $129. Freedom often offers reduced prices. For example, the lifetime option is only $64.50 in January 2021!!

These prices are ridiculously low. Even the most expensive option ($6.99/month, equivalent to £5.56 or €6.20) is below the minimum wage per hour in the US ($7.25/hour). Taken into account that you are likely to save more than one hour of time-wasting on the internet with Freedom in only one day, this small cost seems more than reasonable to me.

Let’s, for example, click on the “get one year” green button, which is the most popular subscription option. It would tell you that the price for one year is $29.

If you enter a coupon code (e.g. UPGRADE30 for January 2021) and click on “apply”, the price would be as little as $20.28 for one year.

Freedom offers three ways of payment: using a credit or debit card, PayPal, or an Amazon account. Choose the option that suits you best and click on the “Complete Order” green button.

How to Install Freedom

To be fully ready to overcome internet distraction with Freedom, you would also need to install the software on all the devices you want to use it with.

To download Freedom, just go here.

You will have the option to download Freedom for Mac, Windows, iOS, Android, Chromebook, and Linux.

Select the operating system of your device and then click on the green “download” button.

This action will download a file called “FreedomSetup.exe”.

Double click on this file. The Freedom Setup Wizard will appear, and it will ask you whether you want to install Freedom. Click on “next”.

You will be asked in which folder you would like to install Freedom. Click on the “next” button again.

Freedom will then be ready to be installed. Click on “Install”.

You will be asked if you want Freedom to make changes on your device. Say “Yes”.

When Freedom is installed, click on “finished”, leaving the default tick for launching Freedom.

Now, you are ready to Ause Freedom. You can use it to implement three strategies to beat internet distractions and increase your productivity:

• Block all the websites
• Whitelist a few websites and block the rest
• Block distracting websites and apps
